Ontario Auto Insurance
Ontario has some of the highest premiums in Canada. Understanding the "OAP 1" Owner's Policy is key to protecting yourself.
Mandatory Coverages
Unlike British Columbia (public insurance), Ontario has a private competitive market. You must buy a standard policy that includes four key coverages:
Third-Party Liability
*Most drivers carry $1 Million or $2 Million liability.
Statutory Accident Benefits (SABS)
This provides standard medical benefits if you are injured, regardless of fault. Standard limits cover up to $65,000 for non-catastrophic injuries, but you can pay extra to increase this to $1 Million.
Direct Compensation (DCPD)
DCPD means your own insurer pays for your car repairs if you are not at fault. You deal with your own company, not the other driver's.
The "Postal Code" Factor
Brampton is famous for having the highest rates in the province due to high claim frequency.
